‘Tech city to tanker city,’ PM Modi takes dig at Congress for mismanaging Bengaluru’s water crisis | India News

NEW DELHI: PM Modi slammed the Congress government in Karnataka for mismanaging Bengaluru’s water crisis. He said the grand old party has “changed tech city into tanker city, and has left it to the water mafia”.
He highlighted the severe water crisis in parts of the city, leading to water rationing and penalties for excessive water usage. PM Modi accused the Congress government of turning the tech hub into a city dependent on water tankers controlled by a mafia.
“The Congress government in Karnataka has turned the tech city into a tanker city, and left it to the tanker mafia,” he said.
He accused the Congress of being against the private sector, taxpayers, and wealth creation. PM Modi emphasised his focus on India’s development and global reputation, contrasting it with the opposition’s focus solely on him.
“The Congress is anti-private sector, anti-tax payer, and anti-wealth creator… the (Opposition bloc) INDIA’s focus is on Modi, but my focus is on India’s development, its global image,” he said.
PM Modi mocked the opposition alliance, saying they’re stuck on repeat while he and his allies showcase their accomplishments.
He highlighted the candidacies of BJP MPs Tejasvi Surya and PC Mohan in Bangalore South and Central, respectively, and Union minister Shobha Karandlaje in Bangalore North. In Bangalore Rural, BJP’s candidate is CN Manjunath, the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, as part of an alliance with the JD(S).
“In these elections, the leaders of the INDIA alliance are roaming around with a worn out tape recorder. Meanwhile, Modi and his partners are walking around with their track record, and that’s why we have come here in Bengaluru to seek your blessings,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi had previously held large rallies in Kalaburagi and Shivamogga. He shared the stage with Deve Gowda during a rally in Mysuru on April 14, followed by a roadshow in Mangaluru.
He also mentioned that Karnataka is going to vote in two phases, with the first phase on April 26 and the second phase on May 7.

ICICI Bank has blocked credit cards of 17,000 new customers after their data was reportedly exposed and reached “wrong users”. The bank said that it is issuing new cards to the customers.
An ICICI Bank spokesperson told news agency IANS about 17,000 credit cards that were issued in the past few days “were erroneously mapped in our digital channels to wrong users”.
“As an immediate measure, we have blocked these cards and are issuing new ones to the customers. We regret the inconvenience caused,” said the ICICI Bank spokesperson.
The bank also said that the number of impacted credit cards constituted “about 0.1% of the bank’s credit card portfolio”.
“No instance of misuse of a card from this set has been reported to us. However, we assure that the Bank will appropriately compensate a customer in case of any financial loss,” the spokesperson noted.

Users reported issue with ICICI Bank iMobile Pay app

Earlier in the day, various reports suggested that some ICICI Bank customers claimed on social media that they were seeing credit card details, including their full number and card verification value (CVV), of people they don’t know.
On forum Technofino, several users reported seeing sensitive data such as the full card number, expiry date, and CVV of unknown customers’ credit cards of some users on their iMobile Pay app.
A person claimed that domestic transactions are blocked due to OTP verification but he could do international transactions from the card.
“I have access to someone else’s Amazon Pay CC due to a security glitch on the iMobile app. Although OTP restricts domestic transactions, I can do international transactions using the details from the iMobile app,” the person wrote.
